What is EZproxy?

Answer

Access to licensed eResources is usually restricted to current Carnegie Mellon University students, faculty, and staff, and requires an Andrew ID and password to authenticate.

EZproxy is a tool that prompts CMU users to authenticate, and then grants access to eResources regardless of whether you are on or off campus. Most resources on the Databases, eResources, & Tools A-Z list use EZproxy.

How does it work?

An EZproxy prefix (https://cmu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=) is added to a resource base URL (https://search.proquest.com/advanced).

Example link with EZproxy prefix: https://cmu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://search.proquest.com/advanced

After clicking a proxied link, you might notice that the URL changes, and embeds the proxy information within the URL:

Proxy prefix change, January 2021:

CMU Libraries' proxy server changed in January 2021, and now uses this proxy prefix: https://cmu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

The old proxy prefix was: search.library.cmu.edu/link/ or links that contained proxy.library.cmu.edu
*Please update any links/bookmarks to use the new proxy prefix, as the old ones will no longer work
